Simultaneous removal of organics and heavy metals from industrial wastewater: A review

Timothy O. Ajiboye et al.

Summary: The co-existence of heavy metals and organics in industrial effluents poses potential health risks and ecological harm, necessitating the simultaneous removal of these pollutants. Technologies such as adsorption, ion exchange, photo-catalysis, and coagulation have been used for this purpose, with their success dependent on water matrices and treatment media. This review critically examines the advantages, limitations, and mathematical modeling of these technologies for concurrent removal of organics and heavy metals in contaminated systems.

Gasification of refuse-derived fuel from municipal solid waste for energy production: a review

Yan Yang et al.

Summary: Dwindling fossil fuels and improper waste management are major challenges due to increasing population and industrialization. Refuse-derived fuel gasification is a key technology that can help reduce CO2 emissions and decrease the amount of solid waste being sent to landfills. Co-gasification using two feedstocks shows potential benefits over conventional gasification, with lower tar formation and improved process efficiency.

Effects of sludge pyrolysis temperature and atmosphere on characteristics of biochar and gaseous products

Shuai Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of temperature and atmosphere on the properties of biochar and gases obtained by sludge pyrolysis, finding that CO2 has both inhibitory and enhancing effects on gas formation at different temperature ranges. The interaction between CO2 and carbon also affects the pore structure development of biochar. Pyrolysis is shown to be an effective method for treating sludge, with the potential for biochar to be used as fuel and an adsorbent.
