Bi-directional thermal buckling and resonance frequency characteristics of a GNP-reinforced composite nanostructure

Jing Li et al.

Summary: This article presents the thermal buckling and resonance frequency of a composite cylindrical nanoshell reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets under bi-directional thermal loading. The study assumes that the temperature-dependent material properties of the composite are graded in the thickness direction of the nanoshell and uses a nanomechanical model to approximate the effective material properties of each layer. The analysis is conducted using a modified couple stress parameter and shows that bi-directional thermal buckling occurs when the relative frequency change approaches 30%. The study is novel in considering the effects of bi-directional thermal loading on the properties of the nanoshell and provides useful insights for the design of materials science and micro- and nano-mechanical systems.

Ahmed Amine Daikh et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the buckling and free vibration of simply-supported cross-ply/angle-ply single-walled carbon nanotubes reinforced composite CNTRC laminated nanoplates in thermal environment. Nonlocal strain gradient theory and third-order shear deformation plate theory are used to analyze the size-dependent effects. The influence of reinforcement patterns, composite structure, nonlocal parameter, length scale parameter, carbon nanotubes orientation, and geometric parameters on buckling loads and natural frequencies is examined.

On the phase velocity simulation of the multi curved viscoelastic system via an exact solution framework

M. S. H. Al-Furjan et al.

Summary: The wave propagation behavior of a sandwich structure with a soft core and multi-hybrid nanocomposite face sheets is analyzed in this study. The influence of viscoelasticity is taken into account using the Kelvin-Voight model, and the effective material properties are derived using a micromechanical scheme with the Halpin-Tsai model. The parametric study shows that increasing the damping factor has a more significant effect on the phase velocity of the sandwich structure, and there is a critical value for the viscoelastic foundation where the relationship between wave number and phase velocity changes.

On the buckling of the polymer-CNT-fiber nanocomposite annular system under thermo-mechanical loads

M. S. H. Al-Furjan et al.

Summary: This article presents the axial buckling analysis of a polymer-CNT-fiber nanocomposite annular system resting on Winkler-Pasternak substrates under various temperature gradients. The governing equations are derived using Hamilton's principle and the higher-order shear deformation theory, and a generalized differential quadrature method is employed for an accurate solution. The results show that parameters such as the outer to inner radius ratio, temperature increase patterns, volume fraction and orientation angle of carbon fibers, weight fraction and distribution patterns of carbon-nanotubes, and other geometric and physical parameters play an important role in the axial buckling load of the structure.

Summary: This research investigates the bending responses of hybrid laminated nanocomposite reinforced axisymmetric circular/annular plates under mechanical loading and various types of initially stresses using three-dimensional elasticity theory. The study utilizes the state-space approach and differential quadrature method to analyze the bending characteristics of the current structure considering different boundary conditions. A parametric study shows that increasing the values of Winkler and Pasternak factors improves the system's static stability and bending behavior.

Summary: The study coupled Fourier series expansion (FSE), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and genetic algorithm (GA) methods to analyze the static-dynamic performance and wave propagation in magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) nanoplates. Application of nonlocal strain-stress gradient theory and GDQEM for thermo-vibration responses of a laminated composite nanoshell

Summary: In this study, thermal buckling and frequency analysis of a size-dependent laminated composite cylindrical nanoshell in thermal environment were investigated using nonlocal strain-stress gradient theory. The thermodynamic equations were established based on first-order shear deformation theory, and the generalized differential quadrature element method was used to obtain natural frequency and critical temperature of the model. Results showed that the frequency of the structure decreases with increasing length scale parameter at lower values, but increases at higher values, and the influences of temperature difference, ply angle, length scale, and nonlocal parameters on the structure were also analyzed.
