Pull-in and freestanding instability of actuated functionally graded nanobeams including surface and stiffening effects

Rasha M. Abo-Bakr et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new solution technique for solving highly nonlinear integro-differential equations governing electrically actuated nanobeams made of functionally graded material. The proposed method combines the modified couple stress theory and Gurtin-Murdoch surface elasticity theory to capture the size effects of the nanoscale thin beam. Various nonlinearity factors are considered in the mathematical formulation. The resulting algebraic model provides means for obtaining critical performance parameters of nanobeam-based actuators.

Summary: This research investigates the bending responses of FG-GPLRC plates and identifies the factors that influence the bending characteristics. It is found that the number of GPLs used for reinforcement and the radius ratio have significant effects on the normal and shear stresses of the structure.

Frequency and buckling responses of a high-speed rotating fiber metal laminated cantilevered microdisk

Zhiyong Wang et al.

Summary: This article presents the amplitude and vibrational characteristics of a rotating fiber metal laminated microdisk. The current microstructure is modeled using a two-parameter viscoelastic foundation and the centrifugal and coriolis effects due to rotation are considered. The strains and stresses are determined using the third-order shear deformable theory and the nonlocal strain gradient theory is used to access size-effects. The boundary conditions are derived through governing equations of the laminated rotating microdisk using Hamilton's principle and solved using a numerical method based on the generalized differential quadrature method.

Computer simulation via a couple of homotopy perturbation methods and the generalized differential quadrature method for nonlinear vibration of functionally graded non-uniform micro-tube

Xiaoping Huang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the impact of nonlinear modal analysis on the vibrational response of axially functionally graded truncated conical micro-scale tubes. Different cross sections, such as uniform, linear tapered, convex, and exponential sections, are considered for various applications. The results provide valuable insights for design and manufacture of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) by analyzing the effect of various cross sections and parameters on micro-tube frequency.

Dynamic simulation of the ultra-fast-rotating sandwich cantilever disk via finite element and semi-numerical methods

Jinhui Wu et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the vibrational and amplitude behaviors of a sandwich spinning disk with a graphene nanoplatelets reinforced composite core. High-order shear deformable theory is used to calculate stresses and strains, and a computational method called generalized differential quadrature method is employed to solve the structure's boundary conditions. Matlab programming is used to explain the disk's vibrations, while ABAQUS software is used for 3-D finite element simulations. The frequency response of the system is found to be better in smaller radius ratios.

Porosity-dependent vibration analysis of FG microplates embedded by polymeric nanocomposite patches considering hygrothermal effect via an innovative plate theory

Ehsan Arshid et al.

Summary: The study investigated the vibrational behavior of a three-layered sandwich microplate with functionally graded porous materials as core and piezoelectric nanocomposite materials as face sheets. By reinforcing the face sheets with carbon nanotubes, their properties can be changed, and equations of motion can be derived using innovative theoretical methods. Results show that an increase in CNTs' volume fraction improves mechanical properties and natural frequency, while the hygrothermal environment also has significant effects on the results.

Application of shifted Chebyshev polynomial-based Rayleigh-Ritz method and Navier's technique for vibration analysis of a functionally graded porous beam embedded in Kerr foundation

Subrat Kumar Jena et al.

Summary: This study investigates the applicability of shifted Chebyshev polynomial-based Rayleigh-Ritz method and Navier's technique on the free vibration of functionally graded beams with uniformly distributed porosity, considering varying material properties along the thickness and embedding the beam in an elastic substrate. The use of shifted Chebyshev polynomials as shape functions ensures computational efficiency and avoids ill-conditioning, with various boundary conditions considered for parametric study. Validation through comparison with existing literature and a convergence study on natural frequencies are performed to examine the effectiveness and accuracy of the model.

Three-dimensional frequency response of the CNT-Carbon-Fiber reinforced laminated circular/annular plates under initially stresses

M. S. H. Al-Furjan et al.

Summary: The frequency characteristics of circular/annular plates reinforced with multi-scale hybrid laminates nanocomposite are studied using state-space formulation based on 3D-elasticity theory. The properties of the plates change layer-by-layer with carbon nanotubes uniformly dispersed in each layer. Initial lateral stress and stacking sequence have significant effects on the frequency behavior of the composite structure.

Summary: This article investigates the vibrational characteristics of a laminated composite annular microplate using modified couple stress theory and Kelvin-Voight model. The non-classical governing equations are derived by adding higher-order stress tensors, and the results show that increasing the viscoelastic parameter does not affect the frequency of the microplate.

Summary: This article presents a non-polynomial framework for bending responses of functionally graded-graphene nanoplatelets composite reinforced disk and conducts a parametric study to investigate the effects of various factors on the bending characteristics. The results show that the relationship between GPL patterns and shear stress varies in different layers of the disk, and the structure exhibits the best behavior against sinusoidal loading pattern.
