Landslide displacement prediction using kinematics-based random forests method: A case study in Jinping Reservoir Area, China

Xinli Hu et al.

Summary: Empirical and numerical methods are commonly used for landslide movement prediction due to their ability to forecast failure time and consider influential factors. This study introduces an integrated prediction model using the Verhulst inverse function and random forest algorithm to fully consider landslide kinematics and external factors. Results demonstrate significant improvement in prediction accuracy compared to individual models, with a decrease in error rates and increased feasibility for predicting movement of other landslides.

Prediction of landslide sharp increase displacement by SVM with considering hysteresis of groundwater change

Heming Han et al.

Summary: This paper proposed a hybrid machine learning displacement prediction model based on Support Vector Machine, optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization and considering the hysteresis of groundwater level change, to accurately predict the sudden change displacement of landslide. The model showed great significance for landslide prediction and early warning by achieving high prediction accuracy and effectively capturing the deformation pattern of landslides.

Evolution characteristics and displacement forecasting model of landslides with stair-step sliding surface along the Xiangxi River, three Gorges Reservoir region, China

Changdong Li et al.

Summary: The study investigates the distribution and evolution of landslides in the Jurassic strata along the lower reaches of Xiangxi River, revealing a four-stage geological evolution process and distinct step-like characteristics of landslides with a stair-step sliding surface in the region. A novel GA-CEEMD-RF algorithm is developed to predict the displacement of these unique landslides, providing insights into their movement patterns and stability.

Progressive geomorphic evolution of reservoir bank in coarse-grained soil in East China - Insights from long-term observations and physical model test

Feng Ji et al.

Summary: The study analyzed a case of reservoir bank collapse and found that a large-scale collapse can occur within a short period of time. It proposed a three-dimensional evolutionary pattern and a stable angle parameter for further scientific calculations.

Updated understanding of the deformation characteristics of the Checkerboard Creek rock slope through GB-InSAR monitoring

A. Woods et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the successful implementation of GB-InSAR technology for monitoring and evaluating natural and man-made slopes, particularly in challenging conditions. The technology was used to monitor a slow-moving bedrock landslide in Canada and helped improve understanding of slope deformation and potential instability.

Assessment of landslide susceptibility mapping based on Bayesian hyperparameter optimization: A comparison between logistic regression and random forest

Deliang Sun et al.

Summary: This study developed and optimized two landslide susceptibility mapping models, LR and RF, using the Bayesian algorithm, and found that the RF model had better stability and predictive capability compared to the LR model with the support of the Bayesian algorithm.

BFTS - Engineering geologists' field station to study reservoir landslides

C. Hsein Juang

Summary: The accurate characterization and assessment of complex landslide behaviors is a major challenge for engineering geologists. In recent years, in-situ experimental and monitoring platforms have become increasingly popular for studying landslide behaviors. The impoundment of the 660 km long reservoir behind the Three Gorges Dam has initiated or reactivated thousands of landslides in the greater reservoir region.

Interactions of landslide deposit with terrace sediments: Perspectives from velocity of deposit movement and apparent friction angle

Zhao Duan et al.

Summary: The study explores the interactions of landslide deposit and terrace sediments in the Loess Plateau, using sandbox experiments and discrete element modeling to simulate changes in geomorphology induced by these interactions. The results provide valuable insights for future countermeasures against loess flowslides in the study area.
