Multiscale simulation of atomization process and droplet particles diffusion of pressure-swirl nozzle

Haiming Yu et al.

Summary: The study proposed a multiscale method to investigate the atomization characteristics of pressure-swirl nozzle for dust reduction, focusing on internal flow field, primary atomization, and secondary atomization. Large eddy simulation, volume of fluid model, and adaptive mesh refinement method were used to predict liquid core breakup and calculate secondary breakup of bigger droplets.

Internal two-phase flow and spray characteristics of outside-in-liquid twin-fluid atomizers

Farid A. Hammad et al.

Summary: Despite its wide industrial applications, the internal-mixing twin-fluid atomization suffers from unstable spray. This study linked the flow characteristics inside a newly designed atomizer with spray stability and quality. By proposing a new parameter and flow regime map, the optimized atomizer can overcome spray unsteadiness and is suitable for applications requiring high spray stability and quality.

Study on atomization performance of multi-orifice air-assisted plain jet atomizers

Yuxuan Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the atomization characteristics of several multi-orifice air-assisted plain jet atomizers are investigated. Experimental results show the efficiency of the atomizers, with SMD as low as 40 μm and spray angle determined by inlet air velocity. Structural parameters influence the spray characteristics by altering the internal flow field of the atomizers, affecting the distribution of air-fuel mixture.

Numerical study of the effect of geometric parameters on the internal flow of a pressure nozzle for dustfall

Junpeng Wang et al.

Summary: Using CFD simulations, this study investigated the effect of main structural parameters on the internal flow of a pressure nozzle, finding that changes in convergent angle, outlet diameter, swirl angle, and flow area significantly impact velocity and swirl degree. Among these parameters, swirl angle and outlet diameter have the most significant influence on the velocity of the nozzle outlet.

A numerical study of the effect of spiral counter grooves on a needle on flow turbulence in a diesel injector

Bowen Sa et al.

Summary: This study introduces spiral counter grooves in diesel injectors to increase the turbulence of fuel flow, thus improving the fuel injection and atomization processes. The results show that the spiral counter grooves can reduce flow velocity, enhance flow turbulence in the nozzle, and increase cavitation intensity. The parameters of the spiral grooves for achieving the greatest turbulence in the nozzle have been determined.

Experimental investigation on spray characteristics of twin-fluid nozzle for water mist and its heptane pool fire extinguishing performance

Chan Seok Jeong et al.

Summary: The study indicates that the twin-fluid nozzle outperforms the single-fluid nozzle in fire extinguishing performance, being able to extinguish fires faster and more effectively, while using less water. Additionally, the airflow of the twin-fluid nozzle is identified as a critical factor affecting its fire suppression capabilities.

Investigation of cavitation evolution and hydrodynamic performances of oil film seal with spiral groove

Zhentao Li et al.

Summary: Through experimental and theoretical analysis, this study found that cavitation in the oil film seal under different working conditions is a complex phenomenon. Higher speed promotes cavitation, while increasing oil pressure inhibits it. The occurrence of cavitation plays an active role in reducing oil film thickness, improving oil film stiffness, and reducing leakage.

Comparisons in spray and atomization characteristics with/without hydro-erosive (HE) grinding in nozzle orifice under non-evaporation and evaporation conditions

Hongliang Luo et al.

Summary: Cavitation in nozzle orifices significantly affects fuel spray characteristics, with a decrease in discharge coefficient and increase in evaporation without grinding. Non-ground nozzles result in reduced spray area and angle, while promoting better atomization due to turbulence.
