Characteristics and source identification of heavy metals in abandoned coal-mining soil: a case study of Zhuxianzhuang coal mine in Huaibei coalfield (Anhui, China)

Fang Hongxia et al.

Summary: The study found that the concentrations of Cu, As, Zn, and Cd were higher in wasteland, while Cu, As, Mn, and Ni exceeded background values in farmland. The heavy metal contents have reached a slight pollution level, with Cd closely related to agricultural activities, and As-Cr mainly coming from mining activities. Ni primarily came from domestic pollution.

The Characteristics and Source Analysis of Heavy Metals in the Sediment of Water Area of Urban Scenic: A Case Study of the Delta Park in Suzhou City, Anhui Province, China

Yaqi Jiang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the environmental geochemical characteristics of heavy metals in sediment of urban scenic areas using Suzhou City's delta Park as a case study in Anhui Province, China. Various spatial interpolation and modeling techniques were applied to explore the spatial distribution, pollution characteristics, and sources of heavy metals. Results indicated higher heavy metal content in the estuary area compared to the park, with a light pollution state in the sediment of the delta park. Agricultural and industrial sources were identified as the main contributors to heavy metals in the sediments of the study area.

Identification of the featured-element in fine road dust of cities with coal contamination by geochemical investigation and isotopic monitoring

Yuan Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified mercury as the primary element of coal contamination through multiple analysis methods in a typical coal resource city. Health risk assessment showed that mercury in road dust did not pose a health risk, although other harmful elements such as lead, chromium, and arsenic still presented risks in the study area.
