Multifractal analysis of coal pore structure based on NMR experiment: A new method for predicting T2 cutoff value

Yang Zhao et al.

Summary: Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) was used to study the pore structure of four types of coal samples and analyze the multifractal characteristics. The results showed that all coal samples were dominated by micropores and had similar multifractal characteristics, with a linear relationship between T-2 cutoff values and multifractal characteristic parameters. Models were developed to predict T-2 cutoff values with high accuracy.

Effect of optimized pore structure on sealing performance of drilling sealing materials in coal mine

Dong Kai et al.

Summary: By optimizing the pore structure of drilling sealing materials using SiO2, sodium silicate, and styrene-acrylic emulsion, a synergistic effect between styrene-acrylic emulsion and SiO2 was found to be more effective than using either substance alone. This optimization resulted in a decrease in porosity and an increase in peak stress of the material.

Multifractal Behavior of the Micro- and Mesopore Structures of Brittle Tectonically Deformed Coals and Its Influence on Methane Adsorption Capacity

Fengli Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the pore volume and surface area distributions of micro- and mesopores in tectonically deformed coals exhibit multifractal characteristics, with the multifractal dimensions providing quantitative measures of heterogeneity and continuity. Changes in pore structure related to coal deformation significantly influence the multifractal properties of pore volume and surface area distributions. The methane adsorption properties of coal are significantly correlated with the multifractal dimensions of pore size distributions, particularly 1-10 nm pores.

Evaluation of liquid CO2 phase change fracturing effect on coal using fractal theory

Binwei Xia et al.

Summary: LCPCF technology has the potential to enhance coalbed methane drainage by enlarging pore diameter and increasing total pore volumes of treated coal samples, leading to a more regular and homogeneous pore structure. Gas content and gas emission index show a negative relationship with fractal dimension, while coal permeability demonstrates an exponential increasing trend with the decline of fractal dimension. Fractal theory bridges the gap between pore structure and methane flow, and is expected to be widely used for evaluating fracturing effect in coal seams.
