Progress in Catalytic Hydrogen Production from Formic Acid over Supported Metal Complexes

Dmitri A. Bulushev

Summary: Metal complexes serve as efficient catalysts for hydrogen production from formic acid, but difficulty in separation limits industrial applications; supporting metal complexes on different surfaces can provide surface sites for formic acid activation and improve performance; stable Ru and Ir supported metal complexes show higher catalytic activity than homogeneous metal complexes.

Synthesis, characterization, and catalytic activity of Ni/CeMnO2 catalysts promoted by copper, cobalt, potassium and iron for ethanol steam reforming

Soheila Sohrabi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that catalysts promoted by Cu and Fe exhibited higher conversion rates and hydrogen yields. The Co promoter effectively facilitated the water-gas shift reaction, leading to decreased CO selectivity. The poor performance of the K-promoted sample was attributed to a low specific surface area and reduced Ni dispersion.

Life Cycle Assessment of Bioethanol Production: A Review of Feedstock, Technology and Methodology

Tahereh Soleymani Angili et al.

Summary: LCA studies on bioethanol production have shown a reduction in global warming potential in most cases, while conflicting results have been found in categories such as acidification, eutrophication, and photochemical oxidant formation due to feedstock provision. Pre-treatment is considered a crucial step in bioconversion processes, with limited attention given to uncertainty analysis in publications.

A Mathematical Description of Selected Energy Transition Scenarios in the 21st Century, Intended to Realize the Main Goals of the Paris Climate Agreement

Askar A. Akaev et al.

Summary: The historic Paris Climate Agreement of the United Nations came into force on November 4, 2016, requiring signatory countries to keep global warming at the level of 1.5-2 degrees C, which entails a 2/3 reduction in greenhouse gas energy emissions by around 2050 or 2070. International Renewable Energy Agency states that achieving this goal is only possible through a transition to renewable energy sources, reaching a share of 40% and above in the total energy balance by 2040-2050.

Artificial Neural Networks for Predicting Hydrogen Production in Catalytic Dry Reforming: A Systematic Review

Van Thuan Le et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the hydrogen production by various catalysts in the dry reforming process. By combining artificial neural networks with differential evolution, the best models obtained showed small differences between experimental results and predictions, indicating a good generalization capability.

A vast increase in heat exposure in the 21st century is driven by global warming and urban population growth

Tamir Klein et al.

Summary: Climate change and population growth are projected to significantly increase the population exposed to extreme heat, particularly in warm cities in regions like Africa, India, and the Middle East. Policy interventions have the potential to reduce the level of exposure increase by up to 70%.

Population growth and climate change: A dynamic integrated climate-economy-demography model*

Veronica Lupi et al.

Summary: The bidirectional relationship between population growth and climate change suggests that demographic policy can be an effective alternative to traditional mitigation policies. Introducing a population policy aiming at imposing a cap on population growth into an extended global integrated assessment model shows significant reduction in social costs of environmental policies. This indicates that population policy may serve as an effective mitigation tool to complement standard climate policies.

Performance Analysis of TiO2-Modified Co/MgAl2O4 Catalyst for Dry Reforming of Methane in a Fixed Bed Reactor for Syngas (H-2, CO) Production

Arslan Mazhar et al.

Summary: Co/TiO2-MgAl2O4 composite showed excellent catalytic activity in the dry reforming of methane process, with the 5%Co loading exhibiting the best performance. The catalyst significantly improved the conversion rates of CH4 and CO2, as well as the selectivity of H-2 and CO. In stability tests, the catalyst demonstrated lasting activity for up to 75 hours, indicating potential for long-term use in the dry reforming process.

Simulation of steam reforming of biogas in an industrial reformer for hydrogen production

Kantilal Chouhan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the steam reforming of biogas for hydrogen production in an industrial-scale reformer. The developed non-isothermal reactor model shows excellent agreement with previous modeling studies and lab-scale experiments. Changes in biogas compositions have been studied to optimize the performance of the industrial steam reformer, with preferable feed conditions identified for methane conversion and hydrogen yield close to thermodynamic equilibrium conditions.
