Below- and aboveground traits explain local abundance, and regional, continental and global occurrence frequencies of grassland plants

Tom Lachaise et al.

Summary: The study found that plant commonness is associated with multiple traits at different spatial scales, with belowground traits playing a larger role than aboveground traits. Non-linear effects were also significant, with the highest commonness values found at intermediate trait values. This suggests that belowground traits are crucial for maintaining trait variation in nature and should be considered more in plant functional ecology studies.
