Remote Application and Use of Real-Time Continuous Glucose Monitoring by Adults with Type 2 Diabetes in a Virtual Diabetes Clinic

Richard M. Bergenstal et al.

Summary: The Onduo Virtual Diabetes Clinic successfully provided real-time continuous glucose monitoring devices to adults with type 2 diabetes without in-office training, resulting in high satisfaction rates and improved understanding of the impact of eating on diabetes control. The intermittent use of rtCGM was associated with a significant decrease in HbA1c levels.

Association between hemoglobin A1c variability and hypoglycemia-related hospitalizations in veterans with diabetes mellitus

Molly J. Y. Zhao et al.

Summary: The study showed that increased A1c variability and higher A1c levels are associated with a greater risk of hypoglycemia-related hospitalization in older adults with diabetes. Clinicians should take A1c variability into consideration when assessing patients for the risk of severe hypoglycemia.

Important Drop in Rate of Acute Diabetes Complications in People With Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes After Initiation of Flash Glucose Monitoring in France: The RELIEF Study

Ronan Roussel et al.

Summary: The RELIEF study in France found that hospitalizations for acute diabetes complications decreased significantly after the initiation of the FreeStyle Libre system, including a reduction in DKA and diabetes-related comas. The study also showed a marked decrease in hospitalizations among individuals who were noncompliant with SMBG and those with the highest SMBG acquisition prior to starting FreeStyle Libre. Overall, the use of flash glucose monitoring could have important implications for improving patient-centered diabetes care and long-term health economic outcomes.

Flash CGM Is Associated With Reduced Diabetes Events and Hospitalizations in Insulin-Treated Type 2 Diabetes

Richard M. Bergenstal et al.

Summary: Flash continuous glucose monitoring (flash CGM) has been shown to improve glycemic control in type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients, leading to reduced risks of acute and chronic complications, which subsequently decrease emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
