Summary: The larvacean Oikopleura dioica, a planktonic chordate belonging to Tunicata (Urochordata), rapidly develops tadpole-shaped body and functional organs within 10 hours after fertilization, making it ideal for studying cellular behaviors during morphogenetic processes. Germ cells fuse and establish a central syncytial cell in the gonad as early as 10 hours post fertilization, marking the completion of trunk morphogenesis and organ formation.
