Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease in a Native American population in Oklahoma

Ashvini K. Reddy et al.

Summary: VKH patients seen by uveitis specialists in Oklahoma showed that Native American patients tended to present at a younger age with more ocular findings, while being less likely to have systemic symptoms compared to non-Native American patients.

Metabolomic Analysis of Aqueous Humor Identifies Aberrant Amino Acid and Fatty Acid Metabolism in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada and Behcet's Disease

Jing Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, aqueous metabolic profiles in patients with VKH and BD were investigated using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography equipped with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The results showed specific aqueous metabolite profiles for VKH, BD, and controls. Amino acids and fatty acids were identified as the most abundant categories of differential metabolites, with perturbed pathways involving amino acids, fatty acids, and other metabolites identified in the pathogenesis of VKH and BD.

Identification of Urine Metabolic Biomarkers for Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease

Rui Chang et al.

Summary: The diagnosis of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease relies on complex clinical manifestations with lack of objective laboratory biomarkers. This study identified differential metabolites in urine of VKH patients compared to healthy controls, and between active VKH and inactive VKH patients. The abnormal metabolites could potentially serve as diagnostic and disease activity markers for VKH, but further confirmation is needed.

Classification Criteria for Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease

Douglas A. Jabs et al.

Summary: The study established classification criteria for VKH disease through machine learning, achieving high accuracy rates in the training and validation sets, with reasonably low misclassification rates for both early and late-stage VKH.

Immune Phenotyping of Patients With Acute Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Syndrome Before and After Glucocorticoids Therapy

Summary: The study revealed that VKH patients have abnormal activation and differentiation of peripheral lymphocytes, and GC therapy with methylprednisolone (MP) can suppress the pathogenic immune response by directly inhibiting T cell activation and affecting monocyte subsets.

miRNA Landscape in Pathogenesis and Treatment of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada Disease

Fabian Vega-Tapia et al.

Summary: miRNAs play a role in regulating gene expression in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, and their dysregulation is associated with the development of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease, a chronic multisystem pathology with autoimmune etiology. The drugs commonly used in VKH treatment have significant influence on miRNA expression, suggesting that miRNAs could be potential therapeutic targets for developing more effective treatments for VKH.

Decrease of choriocapillary vascular density measured by optical coherence tomography angiography in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease

Anyi Liang et al.

Summary: The purpose changes of choroidal circulation in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH) disease throughout its course and the clinical significance are unclear. Choriocapillary vascular density (CC VD) measured by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) decreased in all stages of VKH, with potential to reflect uveitis status and monitor disease activity. OCTA is a useful tool for evaluating choroidal vascularity and further studies are needed to explore its value in monitoring VKH progression and predicting visual prognosis.
