Unveiling the putative functional genes present in root-associated endophytic microbiome from maize plant using the shotgun approach

Ayomide Emmanuel Fadiji et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify putative plant growth-promoting and endophytic gene clusters in root-associated endophytic microbes from maize and assess their abundance under different farming practices. Genes involved in plant growth promotion, stress resistance, and endophytic behaviors were identified, suggesting the potential of endophytic microbial community in promoting plant growth, biocontrol activities, and stress mitigation. Further research through culture of beneficial isolates and pot and field experiments is needed to confirm these findings.

Root Exudates Alter the Expression of Diverse Metabolic, Transport, Regulatory, and Stress Response Genes in Rhizosphere Pseudomonas

Olga V. Mavrodi et al.

Summary: Plants have mutualistic relationships with microorganisms that positively influence plant development, vigor, and adaptation to pathogens and abiotic stressors. Plant root exudates provide nutrients for soil microorganisms and modulate their affinity to host plants. The study reveals the impact of root exudates on carbon and energy supply for beneficial bacterial strains, as well as the regulatory effects on gene expression.

Evaluation of seed associated endophytic bacteria from tolerant chilli cv. Firingi Jolokia for their biocontrol potential against bacterial wilt disease

Bhaskar Dowarah et al.

Summary: This study explored the seed endosphere of a bacterial wilt tolerant chilli cv. Firingi Jolokia to identify effective agents for biocontrol of bacterial wilt disease. Six endophytic bacteria were selected for their ability to inhibit R. solanacearum, with Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2) showing the highest biocontrol efficacy. Analysis identified known antimicrobial compounds in Bacillus subtilis (KJ-2) which contribute to the inhibition of R. solanacearum, highlighting the potential for seed endophytic isolates in controlling bacterial wilt.
