Durability of flexurally strengthened RC beams with prestressed CFRP sheet under wet-dry cycling in a chloride-containing environment

Zhongyu Lu et al.

Summary: Using prestressed CFRP sheets can significantly improve the flexural performance of RC beams, with a 15% prestressing level resulting in around a 50% increase in cracking and ultimate loads. The inclusion of inclined U-jackets enhances the flexural performance and changes the failure mode from CFRP debonding to CFRP fracture. Exposure to chloride-containing environments leads to increased prestress losses, but a 90-day exposure in simulated subtropical marine climate does not significantly affect the flexural performance of the strengthened RC beams.

Axial compressive behavior and confinement mechanism of circular FRP-steel tubed concrete stub columns

Yanlei Wang et al.

Summary: The experimental study on FRP-steel tubed concrete (FSTC) columns showed that increasing FRP confinement and decreasing steel tube D/t ratio enhanced axial load capacities. After deducting steel tube contribution, concrete core's axial load-strain responses were bilinear, similar to composite columns. Comparison between steel and FRP confinement proposed a mechanism showing interaction between inner core and outer FRP-steel composite tube.

Performance and analysis of unidirectional GFRP actively confined high-strength concrete under monotonic and cyclic axial compression

Qi Cao et al.

Summary: The study reveals that actively confined high-strength concrete has a better strength enhancement effect under different loading modes, reducing brittle macro cracking and increasing hoop rupture strain with the increase of confinement. Additionally, the stress degradation rate of unidirectional GFRP actively confined high-strength concrete is remarkably improved due to the compactness of core concrete.

Axial Behavior of PET FRP-Confined Reinforced Concrete

Shahzad Saleem et al.

Summary: The study aims to observe the influence of internal steel bars on the axial compressive response of noncircular RC column specimens confined with PET FRP. Test results show that the strength and deformation capacities of the confined specimens were significantly affected by the parameters considered, and PET FRP effectively restrained stress concentrations at the corners of bar buckling.

Behavior and Modeling of Circular Large Rupture Strain FRP-Confined Ice under Axial Compression

Yanlei Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental investigation into axial compressive behavior of ice-filled large rupture strain (LRS) fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) tube columns, showing significant improvement in ice core performance with LRS FRP confinement and sawdust addition. The axial stress-strain curves of LRS FRP-confined ice exhibited monotonically ascending bilinear shapes, and the compressive strength and ultimate axial strain of the confined ice were significantly enhanced with increasing thickness of the LRS FRP tube.
