The impact of the third O2 addition reaction network on ignition delay times of neo-pentane

N. Hansen et al.

Summary: The study focused on the oxidation of neo-pentane using a combination of experiments and theoretical calculations, specifically investigating the impact of the 3rd O2 addition reaction network on ignition delay time predictions. Experimental results showed that neo-pentane forms only single KHP and KDHP intermediates, with a satisfactory agreement between experimental data and simulation results. The newly developed mechanism accurately predicted ignition delay times and identified the importance of the 3rd O2 addition reactions at low temperatures and high pressures.

Evaluating a novel gasoline surrogate containing isopentane using a rapid compression machine and an engine

Sandro Gail et al.

Summary: Simple surrogate formulations based on primary reference fuels and toluene are commonly used to match the antiknock properties of actual gasoline fuels. However, challenges remain in using these formulations to test or calibrate gasoline engines, particularly in matching certain physical properties of the road fuel. This study presents an alternative surrogate approach with isopentane to overcome these challenges and demonstrates its advantages in closely matching the properties of a real fuel.

THIP: A new TPRF-like fuel surrogate development approach to better match real fuel properties

Sandro Gail et al.

Summary: The study introduces a three-component surrogate formulation, THIP, based on toluene, n-heptane, and isopentane, which can effectively simulate the RON and MON of actual gasoline, while also better matching density, distillation properties, and other volatility parameters. THIP surrogates can fully cover EN228 Summer and Winter gasoline specifications and exhibit excellent matching between ignition delay time and temperature.

An updated experimental and kinetic modeling study of n-pentane pyrolysis at atmospheric pressure in a flow reactor

Hanyu Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the pyrolysis process of n-pentane was investigated using advanced techniques, updating the kinetic model and identifying key reactions controlling the pyrolysis process. Results showed that at atmospheric pressure, alkenes were produced with higher concentrations.

An experimental and kinetic modeling study of the ignition delay characteristics of binary blends of ethane/propane and ethylene/propane in multiple shock tubes and rapid compression machines over a wide range of temperature, pressure, equivalence ratio, and dilution

Sergio Martinez et al.

Summary: This work investigates the ignition delay time characteristics of C-2-C-3 binary blends and validates the chemical kinetic model NUIGMech1.1 through experiments. The results show that the model agrees with experimental data within approximately 26.4% under all conditions studied, with sensitivity and flux analyses helping to identify key reactions controlling the ignition behavior of the blends.

An experimental and modeling study on the low-temperature oxidation of methylcyclopentane in a jet-stirred reactor

Anhao Zhong et al.

Summary: Through comprehensive experimental and kinetic study in a jet-stirred reactor, the low-temperature oxidation behavior of methylcyclopentane was investigated, and a detailed oxidation kinetic model was developed. The updated model showed satisfactory agreement with the oxidation species mole fraction profiles and ignition delay times. Reaction pathway analysis revealed that the reactivity difference at different equivalence ratios was attributed to the branching ratios of beta-scission reactions of methylcyclopentyl radicals.
