Molecular Mechanism of Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)-BB-Mediated Protection Against MPP+ Toxicity in SH-SY5Y Cells

Huan Chen et al.

Summary: PDGF-BB is an important endogenous growth factor that can promote neurogenesis and protect neuronal cells from toxicity. The molecular mechanism involves the activation of signaling pathways PI3K/Akt/GSK-3 beta and MEK/ERK, resulting in the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of CREB, a transcription factor known for its neuroprotective and growth-promoting effects. The study confirmed the protective effect of PDGF-BB in MPP+-mediated toxicity in SH-SY5Y cells and elucidated the molecular mechanism involved in PDGF-BB-mediated neuroprotection.
