T cell and antibody responses to SARS-CoV-2: Experience from a French transplantation and hemodialysis center during the COVID-19 pandemic

Sophie Candon et al.

Summary: The study found that transplant patients were able to mount strong T cell and antibody responses to the SARS-CoV-2 virus after reducing immunosuppressive therapy, aiding in differential diagnosis and potentially playing a role in the development of severe forms of the disease.

Development and Validation of a Multiplex, Bead-based Assay to Detect Antibodies Directed Against SARS-CoV-2 Proteins

Robert A. Bray et al.

Summary: This study introduces a high-throughput multiplex antibody detection assay for identifying patient responses to 5 SARS-CoV-2 proteins. The assay is specific to SARS-CoV-2 antibodies and can be used effectively in transplant settings. It provides a novel tool for understanding immune responses to SAR-CoV-2.

BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine in a Nationwide Mass Vaccination Setting

Noa Dagan et al.

Summary: A study conducted in Israel on nearly 600,000 individuals showed that the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine was effective in reducing the risk of infection, hospitalization, and severe Covid-19. The effectiveness in preventing death was 72% during the period from day 14 through day 20 after the first dose, and hospitalization was reduced by 87% for the period 7 or more days after the second dose, similar to results from a randomized trial.

Supaporn Wacharapluesadee et al.

Summary: A study identified a SARS-CoV-2-related coronavirus (SC2r-CoV), RacCS203, in Rhinolophus acuminatus bats from Thailand, with 91.5% genome similarity to SARS-CoV-2, and demonstrated that sera obtained from bats and Malayan pangolin can neutralize SARS-CoV-2.

Minesh Khatri et al.

Summary: Among patients on maintenance hemodialysis in three outpatient units in New York, about 28% had either SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity or PCR positivity, with rates varying significantly between units. Patients who tested positive for antibodies or PCR were younger, more likely to be Black or Hispanic, and more likely to use public transportation. Rates of asymptomatic infection, hospitalization, and mortality were high in this population.
