Progress in Tuning Emission of the Excited-State Intramolecular Proton Transfer (ESIPT)-Based Fluorescent Probes

Yonghao Li et al.

Summary: This review summarizes recent progress in the design and application of novel organic sensors with emission in the near-infrared region. By coupling different functional groups with excited-state intramolecular proton transfer segments, new probes with attractive optical properties have been developed for bioimaging and environmental science applications. The potential applications of these probes as imaging reagents for intracellular membranes, mitochondria, lysosomes, and biomolecules are illustrated.

Aggregation induced emission in 1,8-naphthalimide embedded nanomicellar architecture as a platform for fluorescent ratiometric pH-probe with biomedical applications

Nikolai Georgiev et al.

Summary: The pH-sensitive nanomicelles with fluorescent 1,8-naphthalimide aggregates exhibit green fluorescence in alkaline and neutral media, which switches to blue monomeric emission in acid media. These nanomicelles are successfully utilized as a fluorescent ratiometric probe for pH determination in media, demonstrating high cell permeability and low cytotoxicity for potential biomedical applications in the future.

Site-to-site peptide transport on a molecular platform using a small-molecule robotic arm

Salma Kassem et al.

Summary: The discovery of new operating methods for a molecular transporter that functions through ratcheting enables selective transport of peptides between chemically similar sites on a molecular platform. The new operating conditions improve efficiency and allow the transport of more complex cargoes than was previously possible, with substrates being transported in either direction in a matter of hours.
