In Situ Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering Spectroscopic Study of a Redox-active Deformable Hydrogel on a Roughened Au Electrode Surface

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: By utilizing surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) signals under electrochemical control, it was observed that one-electron reduced forms of viologen preferentially exist near the electrode surface as dimers. This implies the impact of heterogeneity and dimerization on the SERS data of viologens in the deformable hydrogel.

Enhancement of deformation of redox-active hydrogel as an actuator by increasing pendant viologens and adding filler or counter-charged polymer

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the redox-driven deformation efficiency of a viologen pendant poly-L-Lysine based glutaraldehyde cross-linked hydrogel, and found that the addition of conductive fillers or anionic polymers could affect its contraction and expansion rates. Choosing the appropriate filler and polymer can optimize the performance of the hydrogel actuators.
