Dynamic metallization of spherical DNA via conformational transition into gold nanostructures with controlled sizes and shapes

Won Kyu Lee et al.

Summary: This study explored the dynamic metallization of spherically condensed DNA nanoparticles, leading to the formation of various Au nanostructures with unprecedented morphologies through controlled conformational transitions. The condensed DNA nanoparticles served as templates for synthesis, reservoirs of Au3+ for growth, and stabilizers of the surface, resulting in stable Au nanostructures with catalytic activities and excellent SERS properties. This research offers new synthetic routes for bioinorganic nanomaterials.

Phytosynthesis of biohybrid nano-silver anchors enhanced size dependent photocatalytic, antibacterial, anticancer properties and cytocompatibility

S. Priyadarshini et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized two different sizes of stable nano-silver/silver chloride particles using plant extract, which demonstrated excellent antibacterial and anticancer activities, as well as high photocatalytic performance for environmental pollutant degradation. The synthesized particles can be potentially used to develop novel antimicrobial, anticancer formulations, and environmental catalysts.

Monitoring the evolution of Fe3O4 mesocrystal morphology using first-order reversal curves

Satoru Kobayashi et al.

Summary: This study reports systematic measurements of first-order reversal curves (FORCs) for magnetite mesocrystals, demonstrating that as reaction time increases, the FORC distribution peak shifts towards higher coercivity, indicative of magnetic hardening and magnetizing mean field. Furthermore, with prolonged reaction time, mesocrystals split into porous nanoparticles, causing a further shift of the FORC peak towards higher coercivity, suggesting the evolution of magnetic mesocrystal morphology.

Exploration of the antibacterial and wound healing potential of a PLGA/silk fibroin based electrospun membrane loaded with zinc oxide nanoparticles

Atta ur Rehman Khan et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded poly(lactide-co-glycolic acid)/silk fibroin nanofibrous membranes were fabricated and extensively characterized in terms of physicochemical and biological attributes. The membranes showed enhanced wound closure and improved wound healing quality due to the presence of ZnO NPs. This composite membrane demonstrated significant potential for wound healing applications, as confirmed by in vitro and in vivo evaluations.

The in vitro evaluation of antibacterial efficacy optimized with cellular apoptosis on multi-functional polyurethane sealers for the root canal treatment

Xiaoyu Lei et al.

Summary: An improved root filling material, CP-Ag and CP-Zn sealers, were successfully developed in this study. Compared with CP-Ag, CP-Zn showed longer lasting antibacterial activity and lower toxic effect on cells, with CP-Zn5 exhibiting selective antimicrobial efficacy and hypo-toxicity. The good sealing ability of CP-Zn5 was found to be comparable to AH Plus, making it a promising option for root canal therapy.
