ZnO mesocrystals synthesized using a DNA template exhibited highly effective antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus compared to commercial ZnO NPs. The study evaluated the impact of DNA concentration, water/glycerin ratio, and reaction time on the morphology of ZnO mesocrystals.
A flower-like ZnO mesocrystal was fabricated using a DNA template. The structure and morphology of the asprepared ZnO mesocrystals were correlatively characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of DNA concentration, the ratio of water and glycerin, and the reaction time were studied with respect to the morphology of ZnO mesocrystals. Antibacterial experiments showed that the asobtained flower-like ZnO mesocrystals exhibit highly effective antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) compared with commercial ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs).
