Film Formation and Mass Transfer Characteristics in a Horizontal Self-Cleaning Twin-Shaft Kneader with Highly Viscous Newtonian Fluids

Summary: The study used visual experimental technique to investigate the film formation process with highly viscous Newtonian fluids in a horizontal self-cleaning twin-shaft kneader, as well as the mass transfer characteristics in syrup solution using CO2 absorption. The research found radial unbounded film and bounded film on the disk element, as well as axial unbounded film and bounded film on the kneading bar. It was observed that the twin-shaft kneader had better mass transfer performance compared to the twin-shaft wheel reactor.
