Theoretical determination of a reaction intermediate: Fukui function analysis, dual reactivity descriptor and activation energy

P. P. Zamora et al.

Summary: This work presents a study on the theoretical determination of reactivity and structures of complex phosphorus heterocycles, explaining surprising rearrangement reactions and reactivities of a phosphorus bicycle using the Fukui function and dual reactivity descriptors. The structure of the main starting compound with a very short non-bonding C-C-distance is described as a fast equilibrium in solid state rather than as non-classical ylid, and the negative values of Fukui functions found in some structures are discussed.

Degradation of acetaminophen by activated peroxymonosulfate using Co (OH)2 hollow microsphere supported titanate nanotubes: Insights into sulfate radical production pathway through CoOH+ activation

Long Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, CoM/TNTs composites were synthesized and successfully activated PMS for efficient removal of ACE in water. The synergetic effect of Co (OH) (+) from CoM and TNTs promoted PMS activation, leading to the degradation of ACE. The study provided insights into radical production and organics attack mechanisms in cobalt-based PMS activation system.

Photocatalysis-activated SR-AOP over PDINH/MIL-88A(Fe) composites for boosted chloroquine phosphate degradation: Performance, mechanism, pathway and DFT calculations

Xiao-Hong Yi et al.

Summary: PDINH/MIL-88A(Fe) composites were fabricated using a facile ball-milling strategy, showing outstanding degradation performance towards CQ under low power LED visible light. The activation of PDS over P25M175 and pristine MIL-88A contributed to boosted CQ degradation efficiency through direct and indirect electron transfer. Active radicals and singlet oxygen were found to participate in the CQ decomposition, with proposed degradation pathways and toxicity evaluations of intermediates.

A novel biodegradable porous graphitic carbon nitride/poly(lactic acid) fiber photocatalyst for efficient elimination of carbamazepine under solar irradiation

Mengxia Qian et al.

Summary: Developing efficient photocatalytic materials for the removal of emerging contaminants in wastewater is crucial. In this study, graphitic carbon nitride/polylactic acid (g-C3N4/PLA) fiber composites with hierarchical porous structure were successfully prepared, showing high removal efficiency of carbamazepine (CBZ) under solar irradiation. The reaction mechanisms and degradation pathways were identified, with superoxide radicals, singlet oxygen, and holes identified as dominant active species in the photocatalytic system. The porous fiber composites exhibited not only superior photocatalytic performance and stability, but also biodegradability without causing secondary pollution, providing a promising approach for environmental-friendly wastewater treatment.
