Using mesoporous carbon to pack polyethylene glycol as a shape-stabilized phase change material with excellent energy storage capacity and thermal conductivity

Daili Feng et al.

Summary: A novel shape-stabilized phase change material was prepared using PEG as PCM and FDU-15 as support. The composite showed superior thermal properties due to the enhanced thermal conductivity and reinforced atomic vibration matching between the skeleton and PCM material. FDU-15 demonstrated better thermal performance compared to other mesopore-based composite PCMs.

Environmental and economic impacts of biochar production and agricultural use in six developing and middle-income countries

Mikolaj Owsianiak et al.

Summary: This study examined the environmental and economic impacts of producing biochar from biowaste and using it in agriculture in six developing and middle-income countries. The gasifier systems showed the best environmental performance, but were economically unsustainable. Using simple kilns in countries with low labor costs can result in net economic benefits.

Preparation of biochar and biochar composites and their application in a Fenton-like process for wastewater decontamination: A review

Xuqin Pan et al.

Summary: Biochar is a carbon-rich material obtained from solid waste pyrolysis, featuring low cost, large specific surface area, and strong adsorption capacity. Biochar composites, produced by loading nano particles onto biochar, have been widely applied in wastewater treatment to enhance the performance of advanced oxidation processes. However, due to the variety of biochar feedstocks and preparation methods, comparing the properties of different biochars can be challenging.

The design of phase change materials with carbon aerogel composites for multi-responsive thermal energy capture and storage

Keyan Sun et al.

Summary: A multi-responsive thermal energy capture and storage system was developed using Fe-doped carbon aerogel as a supporting matrix and eicosane as a PCM. The system can simultaneously respond to light, electricity, magnetism, and temperature, converting various energy sources into thermal energy stored as latent heat. The PCM shows excellent performance, with a mild transition onset temperature, high thermal energy storage density, shape stability, and great phase transition stability even after numerous heating-cooling cycles.
