Anti-phase relay synchronization of wave structures in a heterogeneous multiplex network of 2D lattices

Summary: This study investigates relay synchronization of wave structures in a heterogeneous three-layer network, with remote layers consisting of coupled van der Pol oscillators and a middle layer composed of FitzHugh-Nagumo neurons. It is shown that even weak inter-layer coupling can lead to anti-phase relay synchronization of target wave patterns in the network. Stronger inter-layer coupling results in in-phase synchronization of spatio-coherent structures in the network layers.

Synchronization effects for dissipative and inertial coupling between multiplex lattices

Summary: The synchronization of spatiotemporal patterns based on spiral and target waves in a multiplex network with nonlocally coupled van der Pol oscillators is analyzed. Two types of inter-layer unidirectional coupling, dissipative and inertial, show significantly different synchronization features. The layers are synchronized with weak coupling strength in the case of inertial interaction, while desynchronization windows exist where the layer regimes are no longer synchronized.

Bistable labyrinth-like structures and chimera states in a 2D lattice of van der Pol oscillators

Summary: This study focuses on the dynamics of a 2D lattice of coupled van der Pol oscillators in the regime of relaxation oscillations, showing that coupling can lead to shifts in control parameters and even bistable dynamics. A numerically constructed phase-parametric diagram reveals the emergence of bistability through pitchfork bifurcation. Additionally, a new spatiotemporal pattern, called a labyrinth-like structure, is found and studied in detail.
