Recent Progresses of Superhydrophobic Coatings in Different Application Fields: An Overview

Yuxing Bai et al.

Summary: With advancements in material engineering and coating industries, superhydrophobic coatings, which offer exceptional water repellence along with features like corrosion resistance, self-cleaning, anti-fogging, drag-reduction, and anti-icing properties, have gained attention for applications in various fields. Endowing these coatings with transparency, UV resistance, anti-reflection, water-penetration resistance, thermal insulation, and flame retardancy further expands their utility. However, there is a need for detailed classification and presentation on the application of superhydrophobic coatings in different sectors, as past reviews have been limited in information.

Observation of multiple sites for trivalent europium ions in SrAl2O4

Jakob Bierwagen et al.

Summary: The study measured the luminescence spectra and lifetimes of Eu3+ in SrAl2O4:Eu3+/2+, revealing the presence of multiple ion sites and charge compensating defects in close proximity to the europium ions. Short-lived excited Eu3+ species were detected, potentially related to intervalence charge transfer with remaining divalent Eu2+ ions, which may play a role in the afterglow process of SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+.

Development of photoluminescent, superhydrophobic, and electrically conductive cotton fibres

Hanan K. Alzahrani et al.

Summary: A simple method for preparing multifunctional nanocomposites was developed to produce water-repellent, electrically conductive, and photoluminescent films on cotton fibers. The surface morphology and coating content of the nanocomposites applied on electrically conductive cotton/nickel fibers affected the superhydrophobic effect. Increasing the luminescence pigment nanoparticles content was found to enhance the superhydrophobic effect.

A photochromism induced dual-mode luminescence modulation in Sr2SnO4:xYb3+/Ho3+ ceramics

Yuexuan Mu et al.

Summary: In this study, luminescence modulation based on photochromic reaction in Yb3+ and Ho3+ co-doped Sr2SnO4 ceramics was investigated. It was found that 280 nm irradiation can induce photochromic reaction and 480 nm irradiation can partially decolor the ceramics. The luminescence modulation ratio based on DC mode is higher than that based on UC mode, attributed to the larger absorption of the sample at 435 nm relative to the UC excitation wavelength.
