On the effect of yttrium promotion on Ni-layered double hydroxides-derived catalysts for hydrogenation of CO2 to methane

Chao Sun et al.

Summary: Ni-containing mixed oxides derived from layered double hydroxides with various amounts of yttrium exhibited excellent catalytic activity, especially in the moderate temperature region. Modification with different amounts of yttrium had a positive effect on the catalytic performance and CO2 conversion rate, leading to mixed oxides with stronger affinity and smaller crystallite size.

Deciphering the role of Ni particle size and nickel-ceria interfacial perimeter in the low-temperature CO2 methanation reaction over remarkably active Ni/CeO2 nanorods

Georgios Varvoutis et al.

Summary: The structure sensitivity of CO2 methanation over Ni/CeO2 nanorods was explored, revealing an optimum Ni particle size of 20 nm with remarkable activity. The intrinsic activity based on exposed Ni sites or Ni-ceria perimeter is independent of Ni size, as neither can be employed as activity descriptors. Superior activity of larger Ni particles is attributed to the presence of under-coordinated step and kink sites.

Enhanced performance and selectivity of CO2 methanation over phyllosilicate structure derived Ni-Mg/SBA-15 catalysts

Plaifa Hongmanorom et al.

Summary: Ni and Ni-Mg phyllosilicate mesoporous SBA-15 catalysts prepared via ammonia evaporation (AE) method exhibit superior catalytic performance in CO2 methanation compared to catalysts prepared via wetness impregnation (WI) method, due to enhanced metal-support interaction and weakly basic sites provided by surface hydroxyl groups. Incorporation of Mg into phyllosilicate structure increases medium basic sites, promoting monodentate formate formation and improving CO2 methanation activity. Additionally, the turnover frequency of CO2 conversion is correlated with the concentration of basic sites, and the strong metal-support interaction and confinement effect of SBA-15 can suppress metal sintering, ensuring good stability.

Vanadium promoted Ni(Mg,Al)O hydrotalcite-derived catalysts for CO2 methanation

Katarzyna Swirk Da Costa et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of V-promoted hydrotalcite-derived nickel catalysts were tested for CO2 methanation, with Ni-I-V2.0 showing the highest catalytic activity at 2.0 wt% vanadium loading. XRD and XANES analyses revealed the smallest Ni0 particles in Ni-I-V2.0 and improved textural features, while CO2TPD showed the highest sum of weak and medium basic sites in Ni-I-V2.0 that can positively influence catalytic behavior.
