Biomass derived efficient conversion of levulinic acid for sustainable production of γ-valerolactone over cobalt based catalyst

Barla Madhu Krushna et al.

Summary: The study systematically examined the hydrogenation of biomass-based levulinic acid using a robust cobalt supported porous heterogeneous catalyst under normal atmospheric conditions at 200 degrees Celsius. The investigation of Lewis acidic sites and low reaction temperature contributed to achieving a 99% conversion of levulinic acid and an 80% selectivity of gamma-valerolactone.

Highly efficient synthesis of γ-valerolactone by catalytic conversion of biomass-derived levulinate esters over support-free mesoporous Ni

Han Chen et al.

Summary: A series of mesoporous nickel catalysts with different molar ratios of citric acid and nickel nitrate were synthesized and utilized for the catalytic transfer hydrogenation of levulinate esters to gamma-valerolactone. The Ni-1.0 catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic performance, with a GVL selectivity of 99.1% and an EL conversion of 100% achieved at 180 degrees C. The study demonstrated the potential of using these catalysts for environmentally friendly biomass conversion to GVL.

Cobalt encapsulated in N-doped graphene sheet for one-pot reductive amination to synthesize secondary amines

Lin Liu et al.

Summary: The development of an efficient N-doped graphene sheet-coated cobalt catalyst through a simple pyrolysis process enables high-yield and stable one-pot synthesis of secondary amines. The catalyst's robust performance is likely attributed to the synergy effect of in situ generated Co-Nx and N-doped graphene layer, as well as the appropriate meso-pore structure. The catalyst shows promising application prospects for secondary amine synthesis due to its substrate adaptability and smooth synthesis under relatively mild conditions.

Efficient transfer hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) to γ-valerolactone (GVL) over Ni/NiO-MC (MC = mesoporous carbon)

Xinyu Liu et al.

Summary: Ni/NiO-MC, with Ni and NiO nanoparticles distributed on mesoporous carbon, exhibits excellent performance in the transfer hydrogenation of levulinic acid to produce gamma-valerolactone. The synergistic effect of Ni, NiO, and MC allows for high conversion rates and yields, even with a low Ni loading amount. This study not only provides an efficient Ni-based catalytic system for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid, but also demonstrates the potential of mesoporous carbon as an ideal support for highly efficient catalytic systems.
