Ultra-Fast Selective Fructose Dehydration Promoted by a Kraft Lignin Sulfonated Carbon Under Microwave Heating

Renan S. Nunes et al.

Summary: A highly acidic sulfonated carbon catalyst was obtained from eucalyptus kraft lignin and used for fructose dehydration, showing high activity and selectivity towards 5-HMF. The catalyst, produced at low cost, outperformed expensive commercial catalysts and could be recycled without significant loss in catalytic activity.

Multifunctional NiCoTi Catalyst Derived from Layered Double Hydroxides for Selective Hydrogenation of 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-Dimethylfuran

Ning Ma et al.

Summary: NiCoTi metal oxide catalysts were prepared from NiCoTi layered double hydroxide precursors and used for the hydrogenation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-dimethylfuran. The Ni:Co:Ti molar ratio strongly influenced the catalyst activity and selectivity. A NiCoTi-8 catalyst showed outstanding performance for HMF hydrogenation.
