Govaniadine Ameliorates Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Kupffer Cell Activation in Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats

Azra Jahan et al.

Summary: Liver diseases, such as hepatic carcinoma, are major global health issues, and herbal drugs are commonly used for liver injury treatment and may provide leads for hepatoprotective drug discovery. The study focused on the therapeutic potential of Corydalis govaniana Wall. extract, fraction, and isolated active constituents in terms of hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. The results indicated that govaniadine showed significant antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects in liver injury, potentially through scavenging free radicals, attenuating oxidative stress, and reducing inflammation.

The Role of mTOR Signaling as a Therapeutic Target in Cancer

Nadezhda V. Popova et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the current information on the role of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling in cancer as a potential target for new therapy options. The mTOR and PI3K/AKT/mTORC1 (mTOR complex 1) signaling pathways are critical for regulating fundamental cell processes, and their deregulation is implicated in cancer, metabolic dysregulation, and aging. The review also discusses recent data on the structure and function of the mTOR pathway, mechanisms of deregulation in human cancers, and the use of PI3K/AKT/mTOR inhibitors in clinical studies for cancer treatment, including issues of resistance and adverse effects.
