Novel anti-frost subgrade bed structures a high speed railways in deep seasonally frozen ground regions: Experimental and numerical studies

Bowen Tai et al.

Summary: Research shows that the anti-frost subgrade bed structure can effectively reduce frost damage to high-speed railways in deep seasonally frozen ground regions. The filling depth and frost depth are closely related to embankment deformation, and the design of the anti-frost subgrade structure can reduce the seasonal frozen depth of the embankment.

Case Study on Field Observation of Reinforced Embankment in Snowy Cold Region

Akinobu Ogasawara et al.

Summary: This report describes a case where counterweight fill using a high-intensity geotextile is applied as a measure to prevent landslide. The observation results show that no strain acting on the geotextiles was confirmed, nor was there any abnormality in the reinforced embankment. Furthermore, no local decrease in the S-wave velocity could be confirmed, and no change in the internal state of the reinforced embankment could be confirmed.

Use of 2D/3D Models for Cohesive and Noncohesive Sediments in Irrigation Canals

Shaimaa A. Theol et al.

Summary: The study shows that the use of 2D and 3D models provides additional insights into the behavior of cohesive and noncohesive sediments in irrigation canals. Cohesive sediments are more sensitive to variations in discharge and velocity compared to noncohesive sediments. The deposition rate is slower in the presence of mixed cohesive and noncohesive sediments compared to pure noncohesive sediments of the same concentration.

Research on the Temperature Field and Frost Heaving Law of Massive Freezing Engineering in Coastal Strata

Chaochao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study conducted various tests to determine the thermal physical parameters of soil and the frost heaving laws of frozen soil. The results showed that the frost heaving rate and force of soil increased with decreasing freezing temperature in a roughly linear relationship. By establishing a three-dimensional finite element model, the temperature field and frost heaving process of soil under on-site working conditions were successfully simulated.

Longitudinal Deformation Model and Parameter Analysis of Canal Lining under Nonuniform Frost Heave

Pengfei He et al.

Summary: The unique hydrothermal environments in cold regions frequently lead to frost heave failure of concrete lining in water conveyance canals. A mechanical model for the bottom lining under nonuniform frost heave deformation was established, showing that dangerous cross-sections occur at the start and end of transition sections. As subgrade coefficient and frost heave amount increase, while shear modulus and transition section length decrease, maximum normal stress and tangential stress on the lining also increase.
