Epidemiology of Basal-like and Luminal Breast Cancers among Black Women in the AMBER Consortium

Halei C. Benefield et al.

Summary: Evidence from the AMBER consortium of over 5,000 black women with centrally assessed tumor biospecimens suggests distinct etiologic profiles among breast cancer subtypes. Factors such as body mass index, age at menarche, parity, and breastfeeding were found to be associated with different risks for specific subtypes. The basal-like and ER-/HER2(+) subtypes showed earlier age-at-incidence distribution compared to luminal subtypes.

Association of mammographic density measures and breast cancer intrinsic molecular subtypes

Summary: The study found that mammographic density measures were associated with the risk of all intrinsic molecular subtypes of breast cancer, but significant interactions between age and density measures may have implications for subtype-specific risk models.

Epidemiology of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer A Review

Frederick M. Howard et al.

Summary: Triple-negative breast cancer accounts for a significant portion of diagnoses in the United States, with lower survival rates compared to other breast cancer subtypes. Disparities exist in terms of ethnic and genetic risk factors, particularly affecting African American women and carriers of specific gene mutations. Integrating genomic predictors and epidemiological characteristics is essential for providing personalized care and addressing the disparities in outcomes for this deadly disease.
