Are we speaking the same language? Call for action to improve theory application and reporting in behaviour change research

Taylor Willmott et al.

Summary: Inconsistencies in definitions and interpretations, application, and reporting of theory in the behaviour change field hinder the advancement of cumulative knowledge. Standardized frameworks and methods are needed to support theory definition, application, and reporting, in order to assist in building cumulative knowledge over time. Developing a standardized framework can improve consistency in theory application and reporting, leading to advancements in knowledge accumulation in the behaviour change field.

Determinants of weekly sitting time: construct validation of an initial COM-B model and comparison of its predictive validity with the Theory of Planned Behaviour

Neil Howlett et al.

Summary: The study identified that self-monitoring, subjective norm, intention, positive affect, and perceived behavioral control domains formed the Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation constructs of the COM-B in relation to sitting behavior. Both COM-B and TPB showed good predictive validity for sitting behavior, and future research should consider applying this approach to specific populations and behaviors.
