The reduced ARF regulatory system in Giardia intestinalis pre-dates the transition to parasitism in the lineage Fornicata

Shweta Pipaliya et al.

Summary: Giardia intestinalis lacks canonical compartments such as the Golgi and endosomes in its membrane trafficking system, while its fornicate relatives possess greater endomembrane system complexity. Some proteins in the ARF GTPase regulatory system are widely distributed in other eukaryotes, possibly present in the Last Eukaryotic Common Ancestor.
