Circulating microRNAs modulating glycolysis as non-invasive prognostic biomarkers of HNSCC

Francesc Xavier Aviles-Jurado et al.

Summary: The study found that miR-26b and miR-155, which modulate the glycolytic pathway, are independently associated with the risk of recurrence in patients with HNSCC, suggesting that targeting glucose homeostasis may improve outcomes for these patients.

LncRNA SNHG17 promotes the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma by modulating miR-375/PAX6 axis

Fei Tong et al.

Summary: The overexpression of lncRNA SNHG17 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was found to accelerate tumor cell proliferation and metastasis while inhibiting apoptosis. SNHG17 reduces the expression of miR-375 by sponging it, resulting in enhanced expression of PAX6. Therefore, SNHG17 acts as an oncogenic lncRNA in OSCC by modulating these pathways.

Mutational drivers of cancer cell migration and invasion

Nikita M. Novikov et al.

Summary: Genomic instability and mutations play a crucial role in cancer development by affecting cell proliferation, apoptosis, and immune response; mutations are also associated with cancer metastasis, a significant event in cancer progression and a life-threatening issue for patients; despite skepticism, increasing evidence suggests that mutations may trigger and accelerate cancer cell migration and invasion.

Circular RNA circZFR Promotes Hepatocellular Carcinoma Progression by Regulating miR-375/HMGA2 Axis

Rui Xu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that circZFR and HMGA2 were upregulated while miR-375 was downregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma. Knockdown of circZFR suppressed HCC progression by regulating miR-375 and HMGA2, providing new insights into the pathogenesis of HCC.

miRNA biomarkers for predicting overall survival outcomes for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Zeng-Hong Wu et al.

Summary: The study used RNA sequencing and miRNA sequencing data to reveal the dysfunctional miRNAs microenvironment in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and provide useful biomarkers for miRNAs therapy. By predicting the target genes of miRNAs, nine genes correlated with patient's overall survival outcomes were identified.

miR-375-and miR-1-Regulated Coxsackievirus B3 Has No Pancreas and Heart Toxicity But Strong Antitumor Efficiency in Colorectal Carcinomas

Ahmet Hazini et al.

Summary: Insertion of target sites complementary to miR-375 and miR-1 into the oncolytic virus genome can prevent pancreas and heart toxicity, allowing selective attack on colorectal carcinoma cells. The engineered viruses showed reduced replication in cell lines expressing the corresponding microRNAs, leading to improved safety and therapeutic efficiency in mouse models.

A novel miRNA inhibits metastasis of prostate cancer via decreasing CREBBP-mediated histone acetylation

Fubo Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified a novel miRNA, miR-N5, that was downregulated in PCa cells, tissues, and serum of PCa patients. Knockout of miR-N5 enhanced migration and invasiveness in vitro. miR-N5 targeted CREBBP 3'-UTR and inhibited CREBBP expression, which mediated H3K56 acetylation at the promoters of EGFR, beta-catenin, and CDH1.

miR-375 affects the hedgehog signaling pathway by downregulating RAC1 to inhibit hepatic stellate cell viability and epithelial-mesenchymal transition

Zhiwei Liang et al.

Summary: miR-375 is significantly downregulated in liver fibrosis, and it regulates hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activity and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) via RAC1 to exert its anti-liver fibrosis function. This study identified the miR-375/RAC1 axis as a novel regulatory mechanism in the development of liver fibrosis.

Ievgenia Pastushenko et al.

Summary: This study reveals that mutation of the FAT1 gene promotes tumor initiation, progression, invasiveness, stemness, and metastasis. Loss of function of FAT1 activates a CAMK2-CD44-SRC axis while inactivates EZH2, playing important roles in the expression of YAP1 and ZEB1.

Circular RNA circEPSTI1 accelerates cervical cancer progression via miR-375/409-3P/515-5p-SLC7A11 axis

Peng Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, circEPSTI1 was found to be significantly upregulated in cervical cancer and shown to impact cell ferroptosis. The circEPSTI1-miR-375/409-3P/515-5p-SLC7A11 axis was identified to affect proliferation in cervical cancer through the ceRNA mechanism and was linked to ferroptosis. The findings suggest circEPSTI1 as a potential new biomarker for monitoring and targeting treatment in cervical cancer.

RNA in cancer

Gregory J. Goodall et al.

Summary: Recent findings have shown that RNA processing is systematically altered in cancer, with mutations in RNA splicing factor genes and the shortening of 3' untranslated regions widely observed. Additionally, evidence suggests that other types of RNAs, including circular RNAs, can contribute to tumorigenesis.
