Co-delivery of anticancer drugs and cell penetrating peptides for improved cancer therapy

Summary: The study demonstrated the one-pot synthesis of poly(ethylene glycol) mediated ZIF-8 NPs for the co-delivery of an anticancer drug and a cell-penetrating peptide to improve therapeutic efficacy. These pH-responsive NPs showed stability at neutral pH and released the encapsulated drugs at acidic pH, enhancing their cytotoxicity. This strategy provides a new perspective for the design of drug delivery systems and offers more opportunities for biomedical applications.

Silica Capsules Templated from Metal-Organic Frameworks for Enzyme Immobilization and Catalysis

Summary: Inspired by the unique microenvironments of eukaryotic cells, hollow capsules are promising for immobilizing enzymes due to their physical protection and improved activity. A facile method using ZIF-8 NPs as templates was reported to fabricate enzyme-encapsulated SiO2 capsules, with enzyme activity improved over 15 times and high relative activity maintained after exposure to extreme conditions. The coencapsulation of multiple enzymes within the SiO2 capsules also showed high cascade catalytic efficacy.

Molybdenum derived from nanomaterials incorporates into molybdenum enzymes and affects their activities in vivo

Summary: Understanding the in vivo biotransformation of nanomaterials, such as molybdenum derived from MoS2, can shed light on their long-term effects on liver metabolism. Through a combination of in vivo experiments and molecular dynamics simulations, the study reveals that the biodistribution of molybdenum is mediated by protein coronas, mainly with apolipoprotein E, leading to increased enzyme activities in the liver. The findings suggest that nanomaterials consisting of essential trace elements may be converted into active biological molecules in organisms.

Three-dimensional ordered magnetic macroporous metal-organic frameworks for enzyme immobilization

Summary: A novel magnetic amino-functionalized ZIF-8 with highly ordered macroporous structure was successfully synthesized using PS nanosphere monoliths as a template, and catalase molecules were immobilized with high efficiency and loading capacity. The immobilized CAT showed 500% higher activity than CAT/ZIF-8 and maintained 90% activity after 8 cycles of reuse, indicating excellent recyclability and enhanced activity.
