TRF2-mediated telomere protection is dispensable in pluripotent stem cells

Marta Markiewicz-Potoczny et al.

Summary: The loss of TRF2 in mouse embryonic stem cells triggers a compensatory transcriptional program that renders TRF2 dispensable for cell survival and proliferation. The unique DNA damage response in TRF2-null ES cells is controlled by telomere-associated protein POT1B and chromatin remodelling factor BRD2, and is characterized by the upregulation of ZSCAN4.

Antiviral drug screen identifies DNA-damage response inhibitor as potent blocker of SARS-CoV-2 replication

Gustavo Garcia et al.

Summary: A novel medium-throughput drug-screening system was developed to identify potential drug candidates that can effectively inhibit SARS-CoV-2 infection. Through drug-protein interaction-based screening, promising kinase inhibitors were discovered as host-directed therapy for treating coronavirus infections, highlighting important mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions.

Coronavirus biology and replication: implications for SARS-CoV-2

Philip V'kovski et al.

Summary: This review discusses key aspects of coronavirus biology and their implications for SARS-CoV-2 infections, treatment, and prevention strategies. Understanding virus-host interactions at the molecular level is crucial for developing effective intervention strategies. Summarizing the discoveries of SARS-CoV-2 infection and comparing it with other coronaviruses will support future preparedness and combat strategies.
