Revisiting AGN as the source of IceCube's diffuse neutrino flux

Daniel Smith et al.

Summary: The study found that the possibility of blazars producing high-energy neutrinos is low, accounting for no more than 15% of IceCube's observed flux, while the constraint on the contribution from non-blazar AGN is less restrictive, potentially contributing entirely to the diffuse neutrino flux observed by IceCube. As more data is accumulated and released, and gamma-ray catalogs of AGN become more complete, it will be possible to definitively test such scenarios.

First Detection of sub-PeV Diffuse Gamma Rays from the Galactic Disk: Evidence for Ubiquitous Galactic Cosmic Rays beyond PeV Energies

M. Amenomori et al.

Summary: For the first time, researchers have detected diffuse gamma rays with energies between 100 TeV and 1 PeV in the Galactic disk. This provides strong evidence that cosmic rays are accelerated beyond PeV energies in our Galaxy and spread over the Galactic disk.

Giant Cosmic-Ray Halos around M31 and the Milky Way

S. Recchia et al.

Summary: The research suggests that the diffuse gamma-ray emission detected from the direction of M31 could be due to the escape of cosmic rays produced in the galactic disk or in the galactic halo, or could be caused by in situ particle acceleration in the galaxy's halo. If the formation of cosmic-ray halos around galaxies is common, interactions between cosmic-ray protons and nuclei with circumgalactic gas may contribute to the isotropic diffuse flux of neutrinos observed by IceCube.

Pion decay model of the Tibet-ASγ PeV gamma-ray signal

Sergey Koldobskiy et al.

Summary: The study combines data from Tibet-AS gamma Collaboration and Fermi/LAT, finding that the cosmic-ray spectrum in the outer Galactic disk shows similar characteristics to the local cosmic-ray spectrum within a certain model. While the presence of the knee in the average cosmic-ray spectrum is indicated by the data combination, the quality of data is not sufficient for studying further details on knee shape and cosmic-ray composition.

IceCube high-energy starting event sample: Description and flux characterization with 7.5 years of data

R. Abbasi et al.

Summary: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory has confirmed the existence of a high-energy all-sky neutrino flux of astrophysical origin, analyzing the high-energy starting event sample with additional data and improved models. The astrophysical neutrino spectrum is found to be compatible with an unbroken power law, with a preferred spectral index of 2.87 for the 68% confidence interval.

Directional Association of TeV to PeV Astrophysical Neutrinos with Radio Blazars

A. V. Plavin et al.

Summary: Recent research suggests that high-energy neutrinos detected by IceCube may be produced in the central regions of radio-bright blazars, interacting with X-ray self-Compton photons. Independent analysis of blazars and IceCube data shows significance, potentially explaining the source of the entire IceCube astrophysical neutrino flux.
