Cleaner fish in aquaculture: review on diseases and vaccination

Toni Erkinharju et al.

Summary: Controlling sea lice infestations is costly for farmers, with limited options available such as traditional chemotherapeutants and cleaner fish as the most effective method. The use of wild-caught mature fish as brood stock for farmed production poses biosecurity risks. Vaccine development for sea lice in fish is lagging behind the widespread use of aquaculture species.

Meta-analysis of the use of seaweeds and their extracts as immunostimulants for fish: a systematic review

Valentin Thepot et al.

Summary: Seaweeds are a potential source of unique immunostimulants for enhancing the health and growth of farmed fish, with significant positive impacts on fish immunity, stress resistance, and growth demonstrated in the study. However, considerable variations among studies and between fish and seaweed species make it challenging to extrapolate the results beyond individual experiments.

Seaweed dietary supplements enhance the innate immune response of the mottled rabbitfish, Siganus fuscescens

Valentin Thepot et al.

Summary: This study found that dietary seaweed supplements can enhance the immune response of S. fuscescens, with red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis and brown seaweed Dictyota intermedia showing the most promising results. Further research on these species is recommended.
