Electrogalvanization using new generation coatings with carbonaceous additives: progress and challenges

Summary: Combining carbonaceous materials such as graphene with zinc metal matrix can significantly influence the electrochemical response, resulting in better corrosion resistance of the coating. In addition to the intrinsic properties of carbon materials, the microstructural and morphological alterations introduced by these materials also play a significant role in enhancing the corrosion resistance behavior of the coatings.

Summary: The study demonstrates that adding an optimal amount of CNT (initially 8 mg/L) in Zn coatings can achieve the best corrosion resistance performance, while continued addition of CNT leads to a decrease in corrosion resistance. The lower corrosion rate in Zn-CNT composite coatings is attributed to the presence of strong basal plane texture and special grain boundaries.
