Summary: The accumulation of engineered nanomaterials is increasing with the discovery of more applications, along with their environmental impact. Debate surrounds the toxic effects of nanoparticles, with understanding their behavior in the environment and biological systems being crucial. Advancements in ICP-MS and SP-ICP-MS technologies have provided key support for studying the behavior of nanomaterials in environmental and biological matrices.

Summary: An analytical methodology based on AF4-ICP-MS was developed to monitor citrate-coated PtNPs in water samples. The method was optimized to study transformations of PtNPs in synthetic and natural water samples, with a focus on the impact of organic matter. The optimized method demonstrated quantitative recoveries of PtNPs and is promising for further environmental studies of PtNPs.
