Sputtered VO2 coatings on commercial glass substrates for smart glazing applications

Summary: VO2 thermochromic films were grown on fused silica and float glass substrates using rf sputtering technique at a low deposition temperature of 300 degrees C. The deposition conditions were found to affect the thermochromic behavior of the films, with only films on float glass below 50 nm in thickness and grown with 3% O-2 exhibiting a thermochromic behavior. The films on fused silica glass, on the other hand, demonstrated a thermochromic phase regardless of thickness when grown with 1% O-2.
