Technical feasibility evaluation of a solar PV based off-grid domestic energy system with battery and hydrogen energy storage in northern climates

Summary: This paper investigates the technical feasibility of an off-grid energy system with short-term battery storage and seasonal hydrogen storage based on data from a residential house in Finland. The study finds that high peak electric power demand during low PV power generation times is the most significant factor affecting system dimensioning, with a battery storage capacity demand of only about 20 kWh. The study concludes that feasible solutions are available for an off-grid operation with a fuel cell and electrolyzer of certain nominal powers.
