Identification and functional characterization of the Piezo1 channel pore domain

Elena D. Nosyreva et al.

Summary: Mechanotransduction involves the conversion of physical forces into electrochemical responses by cells. Exciting new findings on the molecular scale of mechanically activated ion channels are emerging, but our understanding across the family of channels remains limited. Research on Piezo1 channels has identified the minimal amino acid sequence and revealed that the pore domain is not pressure-sensitive.

A mechanosensitive peri-arteriolar niche for osteogenesis and lymphopoiesis

Bo Shen et al.

Summary: Stromal cells in adult bone marrow expressing leptin receptor are a critical source of growth factors for haematopoietic stem cells. Among these cells, those expressing osteogenic growth factor osteolectin are poised for osteogenesis, while those near sinusoids are primed for adipogenesis. Mechanical stimulation is crucial for the maintenance of the peri-arteriolar niche for osteogenesis and lymphopoiesis.
