Contrasting dynamical responses of sympatric caribou and muskoxen to winter weather and earlier spring green-up in the Arctic

Marleen Eikelenboom et al.

Summary: The study conducted in West Greenland over an 18-year period found that caribou population decreased while muskox population increased. Caribou showed higher population growth rate and calf production following warm winters, but lower in years with earlier spring green-up. Muskox population growth and calf production increased following earlier springs, despite a negative association between their rate of increase and winter temperature.
