Peptide-Metal Frameworks with Metal Strings Guided by Dispersion Interactions

Tobias Schnitzer et al.

Summary: Despite the challenges in forming networks from peptidic ligands, a peptide-metal framework consisting of helical oligoproline ligands and Zn/K (or Zn/Rb) has been successfully created in this study. The crystal network contains pleated nanosheets with metal ions aligned in strings, with the unique architecture derived from under-appreciated London dispersion interactions between the ligands. The secondary structure of the peptidic ligand plays an important role in the creation of new MOF architectures.

Metal-Coordinated Supramolecular Polymers from the Minimalistic Hybrid Peptide Foldamers

Sanjit Dey et al.

Summary: Short alpha,gamma-hybrid tripeptide sequences can form stable helical structures even in the presence of amino acids favoring beta-sheets, and their hybrid helix can coordinate with metal ions to form selective metallogels. X-ray diffraction analysis of peptide single crystals obtained from the gel matrix shows that the helical structure is maintained during the self-assembly process, and a 3D helical crystalline coordination polymer with permanent porosity can be generated by varying the counter anion.

Chemically Stable Metal-Organic Frameworks: Rational Construction and Application Expansion

Tao He et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great potential in various fields due to their structural diversity and functional tunability, but their poor chemical stability has hindered their practical applications. Researchers are actively developing efficient strategies to enhance the stability of MOFs and explore new applications under harsh conditions. By designing and synthesizing chemically stable MOFs, significant progress has been made in addressing global challenges related to environment, energy, and food safety.
