Fluorescent Probe for Monitoring Hydrogen Peroxide in COX-2-Positive Cancer Cells

Jiyeong Lee et al.

Summary: Hydrogen peroxide is important in cellular functions and overproduction can lead to oxidative damage and diseases like cancer. The COX-2 enzyme plays a role in cancer development and resistance to treatment, so monitoring H2O2 changes in COX-2-expressing cancer cells is vital. A fluorescent probe composed of indomethacin and 1,8-naphthalimide boronate ester was able to image endogenous H2O2 in COX-2 overexpressing cancer cells.

One-Step Transformation from Rofecoxib to a COX-2 NIR Probe for Human Cancer Tissue/Organoid Targeted Bioimaging

Lijun Xie et al.

Summary: Fluorescent probes for COX-2 imaging have been developed using a single-step process from rofecoxib, showing potential for strong fluorescence imaging of COX-2 in human cancer tissue. The most potent analogue, 2a1, exhibited promising COX-2 targeting activity and attractive fluorescent properties, highlighting its potential as a near infrared fluorescent probe for human cancer imaging in clinical settings.
