Gut microbiota profiles and characterization of cultivable fungal isolates in IBS patients

Piero Sciavilla et al.

Summary: Studies on irritable bowel syndrome have mainly focused on the role of gut bacteria in modulating intestinal functions, but limited evidence suggests that gut fungal communities may also play a role. This study compared the gut microbiota of IBS patients with healthy subjects, revealing significant differences in microbial composition. The findings suggest a potential involvement of gut fungi in IBS.

A Pilot Clinical Study on Post-Operative Recurrence Provides Biological Clues for a Role of Candida Yeasts and Fluconazole in Crohn's Disease

Boualem Sendid et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the effect of the antifungal fluconazole on post-operative recurrence of Crohn's disease. Results showed that fluconazole had an impact on the relationship between Candida albicans and Crohn's disease, but due to the limited sample size, no definitive conclusions could be drawn.

Candida albicans disorder is associated with gastric carcinogenesis

Mengya Zhong et al.

Summary: This study identified an imbalance of gastric fungal microbiome associated with gastric cancer, characterized by altered fungal composition and ecology. Candida albicans was found to be a potential fungal biomarker for gastric cancer, with significant differences in fungal structure and diversity between gastric cancer and control groups. The study suggests that C. albicans could mediate gastric cancer by reducing the diversity and richness of stomach fungi.
