Effects of Occupational Exposure to Waste Anesthetic Gas on Oxidative Stress and DNA Damage

Hai-Xin Hua et al.

Summary: Long-term occupational exposure to waste anesthetic gas may affect the antioxidant defense system and potentially impact vital organ functions to some extent. Significant differences were observed in superoxide dismutase activity and vital organ parameters between the exposed and control groups, with higher malondialdehyde, total bilirubin, creatinine concentrations, and QTc intervals in the exposed group. However, no significant differences were found in glutathione peroxidase activities and gamma H2AX concentrations between the two groups.

Summary: A hydrogel-based encapsulation system, known as DEPCOS, has been developed to provide deployable physical containment for genetically modified microorganisms, preventing their escape and protecting them against environmental insults. It also allows for controlled lifespan and easy retrieval of bacteria, showcasing versatility in executing useful functions such as cell-cell communication and heavy metal sensing.

Affinity Hydrogels for Protein Delivery

Lidya Abune et al.

Summary: Affinity hydrogels offer the potential to stably retain and sustainably release proteins through a binding reaction, different from traditional hydrogels. Future research may focus on developing intelligent affinity hydrogels to mimic human tissue properties and release single or multiple proteins on demand in response to environmental stimuli.
