Climatic and socio-economic factors supporting the co-circulation of dengue, Zika and chikungunya in three different ecosystems in Colombia

Jasmine Morgan et al.

Summary: This study analyzed arbovirus cases, climate, and socio-economic profiles in three distinct Colombian municipalities, finding strong correlations between temperature, wind speed, and disease incidence. The Zika epidemic in 2016 appeared to reduce dengue transmission in Cucuta, and socio-economic factors were found to have a significant impact on disease transmission.

Summary: Dengue fever is a neglected tropical disease according to the World Health Organization. This study conducted a Poisson multilevel analysis on three municipalities in Colombia for the period 2010-2015, revealing that temperature had the biggest influence on the occurrence of dengue cases in the region.
